Air India Express (AIE) will begin flights from Kochi to Madurai and Singapore on 27 March 2018. As a result, it has discontinued its Madurai - Delhi return flights launched in September 2017.Also de-linked from Air India Express' Singapore flight network is the Chennai-Tiruchirappalli route due to competition on the direct service to Chennai by Scoot.

New Zealander Andrew Fisher, an executive with Etihad Airways, has broken a world record - by travelling around the globe by air in the fastest time using the fewest number of flights.With a flying time of 52 hours and 34 minutes, Fisher beat the previous record by three hours and 13 minutes, using only four scheduled commercial flights instead of five to achieve his life-long ambition.
